InterLibrary Loan Service of Articles

The InterLibrary Loan Service of Articles is a service that gives the opportunity to Hellenic Open University (HOU) library users to order articles (otherwise not available in the HOU library) offered by other libraries, through the National Union Catalogue of Scientific Journals of the National Documentation Centre. All members of the HOU academic community (academic staff, students, administrative staff) as well as external users, can have access to this service.

First, users must verify that the article they wish to borrow doesn't exist:

1.  at the collection of the HOU library (search in the Online Public Access Catalogue of the library)
2. in the electronic journals available through the Heal-Link consortium
3. in the e-Journals provided by the HOU library

Second, they must search for the journal they are interested in, in the National Union Catalogue of Journals of the National Documentation Centre, locate those libraries that provide it and fill in and send electronically to the HOU library an Article InterLibrary Loan request Form.

Then the HOU library informs the user (by telephone or in writing) to present themselves to the library and collect a photocopy of the article and pay the appropriate fee. For distant users articles are sent by email, fax or posted through a courier service and the fee can be deposited in a bank account. The cost of the article depends on the total number of its pages as well as the way it's delivered to the user (email, fax, courier service).
