The Hellenic Open University (HOU) Athens Library Branch is located on the ground floor of a renovated neo classical building in no. 4-6 Gravias Street, 10768, Athens.
1. FUNCTION
The main function of the HOU Athens Library Branch is to support the educational needs of students and to contribute to the development of research as well as the formation of active student communities. In particular the operation of the library aims at making it easier for students, academic staff and external users to access printed and electronic material as well as strengthen the educational process in general, by acting as a meeting place and cooperation amongst students, which will lead to the development of activities that are related to research, education and culture.
2. COLLECTION
The collection of the Athens Library Branch includes HOU editions as well as books which are related to the subject matter of the courses offered by the HOU. Also, users can have access to e-books, electronic journals, bibliographic scientific databases and dissertations of HOU students.
There is much effort made to continuously enrich the collection of the library so that it can include:
• Reference material (encyclopaedias, dictionaries).
• Journals.
• Books related to the subject matter of the course programs offered by the HOU.
• Books that cover a wide area of knowledge areas.
Searching for books is done through the Online Public Access Catalogue. For those particular copies which belong to the collection of the Athens Library Branch, there is a specific note in the catalogue which indicates that they are located in the above branch. These books can only be borrowed by local users. Please note that borrowing rights vary, depending on the type of user one is, i.e. student, academic staff, external user and according to the regulations for Borrowing Printed Books.

1. Borrowing Services (borrowing, renewals and placing holds).

3. Studying in the premises of the library.
4. Provision of support and training to users.
5. Organising events related to research, education and culture.
4. PREMISES
The premises of the Athens Library Branch include a reception area for serving students, a hall that houses the printed collection, a reading room, users' computers for searching and retrieving material. Additionally users can photocopy and print material.
5. WORKING SCHEDULE AND CONTACT DETAILS
The Athens Library Branch is open Monday to Friday from 08:00 to 20:00 and Saturday from 10:00 to 16:00.
