Borrowing Printed Books

Borrowing books for distant users is done by filling in the online Borrowing Request Form.

On the premises of the Library students can borrow books by showing their academic identification card and external users by showing their Library card respectively.

Before making the online request it’s necessary to search for the material in the Main Catalogue of the Library in order to check its availability. For more information please refer to the Guide for Searching in the Main Catalogue.

In case you wish to place a hold on an item which is borrowed, you must fill in the online Request for Placing a Hold form.

The borrower bears the cost of both the shipment and the return of the material. The shipment is done either by any private courier company of the borrower's choice, or by the courier service of the Hellenic Post Office. In case of loss or damage of the books, the borrower must replace them. In case the borrower does not receive the package and the latter is returned to the Library, all shipping expenses from and to the Library shall be covered by the borrower.

When returning the material to the Library one should use either the Hellenic Post Office (the “Registered Post” service must be used) or any private courier companies.

LOW COST SHIPMENT: The Hellenic Open University (HOU) Library has signed up an agreement with the GENIKI TACHIDROMIKI courier company and has secured for its users within Greece lower fees for its services. Please refer to the table below. The prices mentioned include both the shipment and the return of the books. The cost of the parcel is determined by its weight. Please note that when returning the books to the Library you must use the “reverse charge” service.
