You can search for a book at the collection of the Library of HOU, through its web page (http://lib.eap.gr). More specifically visit the Library Catalogue Services, where you can find the content search form.

The search can be:

Simple Search: this search can be performed by typing in a word or phrase or by searching by author or by the ISBN of the book.

Complex Search: this search can be performed by connecting words or phrases with the use of Boolean operators (and, or, and not)

Scan search: this search helps you see lists of results alphabetically (alphabetical index).

At the returned results you can see the availability of the material, indicated as: “AT” the “BOOKSHELF”.

In order to use the OPAC Electronic Catalogue, you must consult the Online Educational Tutorial for the OPAC Catalogue that you can find at the web page of Library.

You may perform a simultaneous search in order to locate available books, journals and any other material at the catalogues of Greek Academic Libraries via ZEPHYR, where you can apply a simple or complex search, by selecting the catalogues at which you want to search.

The Library of HOU also offers the option of a wide search to a lot of information resources, through catalogues such as Muse Search. This particular catalogue provides a lot of search options, not only at libraries catalogues, but also at bibliographic and other data bases.

In case you locate the book you want at another library, then, as a student, you can use your right of Interborrowing, as long as the particular library belongs to the contracted institutions for Interborrowing.

The Library has gained a subscription to electronic journals, whose subjects have to do with the Schools  of HOU (School of Humanities, School  of Social Science, School of Science and Technology), which can be accessed through the “Electronic Information Resources - Electronic Journals” link. You can access the electronic journals after you install the VPN software.

Moreover, you can search for electronic journals at the Heal-Link catalogue, in which are included the electronic journals of the Consortium in which also participates the Hellenic Open University. This search can be performed by the title of the journal, by subject or by key words (“Electronic Information Resources- Heal-Link Search - Electronic Resources”) through an alphabetical catalogue.

In order for you to find a dissertation that you want, you must search the OPAC Electronic Catalogue. The dissertations are categorized per Study Program. This search can be performed   by title, author etc, or just by scanning all the Dissertations per Study Program, e.g. diplomatic theses EKP.

After locating the Dissertation you want via the OPAC electronic catalogue, click on the title of the dissertation work and then, click on the electronic address given in the field “Electronic Access to Full Text”. Type in the username and the password that you have been given by the Registry Department and select “login”. Double-click on the file and the Dissertation is at your disposal.
The Dissertations can also be accessed via the portal of HOU, after following the next steps:
1. Visit the portal via the web page of HOU.
2. Select “Subject modules site” link.
3. “Sign in”.
4. At “My places”, one of the options given, is the one that refers to the dissertation,
5. After clicking on the previous link, you see a table where you can find the file with the dissertations of your study program.

In order for you to borrow locally as an external user of the library, you must be registrated and must have a Card of an External User, which you owe to demonstrate at your entry in the library. As an external user, you have the right of borrowing up to 3 titles for a time of 10 days with the right of one renewal (provided that there has not been any reservation from another user) in:

a) Editions of HOU
b) Books of literature with a special labeling on the ridge of the book: a round orange sticker
g) Handbooks (readers), which are labeled with a green sticker

As a student of HOU you do not have to register to the library, as you acquire the right of use automatically when you start your studies in HOU.
The lending of books can be done after you demonstrate the HOU student card and then you can borrow books from all categories. Before or at the expiry of the time of borrowing you can renew the duration of the borrowing or return the book, which, noteworthy, should be returned at the situation that you received it.

If you are a local External User, you must fill in the special form that is provided at the borrowing counter with all your personal data. In this document you have to attach a photocopy of your identification card along with a small photograph. Your card is valid for two years and is essential in order to enter the library and to use its services.
If you wish to register to the library remotely in order to borrow, you must send a filled Book Borrowing Form along with a photocopy of your identification card, by e-mail or by fax. In case of remote registration, your personal data are registered only electronically and no user card publication is being required.

The users of Library can make photocopies of material at the Library using the special photocopier machine bought for this purpose. In order to use this specific photocopier, you must buy a special card of 50 units which is being retailed by the personnel of library. Afterwards, you insert the card in the reading machine which is connected to the photocopier and then you can make your photocopies. The total number of photocopies is not supposed to exceed the 2/3 of the total extent of each document.
This special card can be used by its holder until all the units run out.

In order for you to have distant access to the electronic resources and services of the library (Data Bases, Electronic Journals, Electronic Books, Muse Search) you must follow the next steps:

At  the site of the  library (http://lib.eap.gr),   go to the unit “Guides and Tutorials”, click on “Guidelines on  accessing  Electronic Services”, click on Press HERE,  input the access code that you have been given  by the Registry Department, and, then, download  the openVPN program along with further instructions  of installation.

At this point you are asked to input your personal access code given to you by Registry Department. After you download the instructions, you must exactly follow the indicated steps. These settings have to do with the process of connecting as an authorized user of HOU and changing the IP address of your computer.

Users have to make sure that the article they seek does not exist:
1. at the collection of Library (search at OPAC electronic catalogue),
2. at the electronic journals that are being offered by the consortium of “Heal-Link” and
3. at the electronic journals that the Library has.
Users can either submit their article order request electronically at lib@eap.gr, or send it by fax at 2610362821 or personally deposit it to the Library, provided that they fill in the Article Interborrowing Form.
The receipt of the articles (photocopies) is exclusively performed by the users, after they are asked to do so by telephone or by e-mail by the personnel of the Library. Afterwards, the users have to receive the articles from the premise of the Library and to pay for them.
For further details, consult the “Articles Interborrowing Processes”.

According to the regulation on the elaboration of dissertations, the dissertations have to be submitted in two (2) copies of the final project (even annexes, notes, articles, accompanying material, etc) in electronic format, and more specifically in a Cd-rom, in a unique PDF file at the library of HOU.
Each of the copies should not be larger than 10MB, so in case that the presentation of a dissertation is supported by designs and master drawings, they should be submitted along with copies of the prototypes.

At the beginning of the academic year, the Student Registry Department grants new students with access codes, so, students that do not have a username and a password, will have to contact Registry Department.

The professors of HOU that wish to have access to the electronic services will have to address a request to portalhelp@eap.gr,  by e-mail, in order to be supplied with an according username and password.

For any by any chance problems during the use of their codes, they will have to send an e-mail to portalhelp@eap.gr, in order for the validity of their codes to be checked by the department responsible.

The external users of the library are not eligible to use those access codes and for this reason they are allowed to have access to the electronic library of HOU only from the computers of library.
